The absence code belongs on the morning page
An absence is rarely in the newsletter. It is a code in PowerSchool, iSAMS or Engage: present, absent, late, excused, nurse. Some schools also email a nurse note. GEMS Connect and other parent apps usually do not replace that screen. If you only open mail, you will miss the code. If you only open the fees app, you will miss it twice.
Why parents find out late
The office may not write. The teacher marks the period and moves on. The parent WhatsApp group forwards the desert-trip letter and never the tardy from Period 1. That is true at GEMS schools, Taaleem campuses, Nord Anglia, King’s, Repton and independents. The SIS is where attendance lives. Everything else is optional commentary.
A nurse visit is the same pattern. If the clinic writes, it belongs next to the code. If nobody writes, the morning page should not invent a temperature.
What the morning edition should show
A daily school digest for parents should answer: is there a new attendance change since yesterday? A nurse note in mail? Nothing else pretending to be urgent. Empty “present” rows stay out. The weekly circular waits.
Same-day pushes for a fresh absence exist on supported plans. They are not a promise that every school codes attendance by 08:00. The school’s clock is still the school’s clock.
Read the record you already have
ParentHub reads the parent portal you connect and the mailbox the school writes to. Dedicated readers exist for PowerSchool and GEMS Connect; iSAMS, Engage and other named types are recognised in setup. Classroom and ManageBac are for work, not for the attendance register.
The monthly plan starts at AED 99. That is a few family breakfasts, not a canteen lunch.
